The Opportunity

Reporting to the Managers, Children’s Inpatient and Surgical Care and Pediatric Critical Care, with accountability to the Professional Practice Chief of Clinical Nutrition for issues pertaining to professional standards of practice and ethics. The Clinical Dietitian works collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary care teams (PICU, general surgery, pediatric cardiology, orthopedics, and plastics), and is responsible for the nutritional management of children seen by these teams (both inpatient and ambulatory). The Clinican Dietitian participates in case conferences and team rounds, and assists in the education of health centre staff, dietetic interns and affiliating students in normal and therapeutic nutrition. The Clinical Dietitian practices in accordance with the mission, vision and philosophies of the IWK Health Centre. The Clinical Dietitian shares responsibility with all dietitians to provide caseload coverage throughout the Health Centre, as well as weekend stand by and call back coverage as required.

Hours of Work

Monday-Friday required.
Weekend/statutory holiday standby, and call back coverage, as required.

Your Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s Degree with major credits in nutrition or dietetics required.
•    Successful completion of a Dietitians of Canada accredited dietetic internship program required.
•    Current license to practice with Nova Scotia Dietetic Association, or eligible to obtain license, required.
•    Previous experience in a health care setting required.
•    Experience in pediatrics, nutrition support (enteral and parenteral), and nutritional counseling required.
•    Previous clinical nutrition experience in intensive care and general surgery populations preferred.
•    Ability to participate in weekend/holiday call required.
•    Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication (verbal and written) skills required.
•    Demonstrated excellent time management, organization, and problem-solving skills required.
•    Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative, interprofessional team, as well as the ability to work independently required.
•    Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to family centered care required.
•    Competency in other languages an asset; French preferred.
