The Opportunity

The Lead, Planetary Health & Sustainability Reporting leads and embeds planetary health and climate resilience within IWK Health’s operations, ensuring healthcare delivery supports both human well-being and planetary health. It plays a critical role in developing and advancing the hospital’s environmental sustainability strategy, including measurable goals for emissions reduction, waste minimization, and resource conservation. A major focus is on climate-related disclosures, sustainability reporting and KPI’s, providing transparency and accountability to patients, staff, and the wider community. Ultimately, the position ensures that planetary health and environmental stewardship is not only a value, but a vital practice that is integrated into all aspects of IWK Health.

Responsibilities
- Assist with development of overall planetary health strategic plan.
- Collaborate with clinical, operational, and facilities teams to integrate sustainable practices across departments, via leading the Sustainability Oversight & Implementation Committee.
- Lead climate-related and sustainability reporting and disclosures aligned with recognized frameworks and regulatory requirements, including monitoring environmental performance metrics and KPI’s and driving continuous improvement through data-driven insights
- Leads the sustainable and active transportation program, including managing the IWK Smart Trip Program
- Engage internal and external stakeholders to promote environmental stewardship and build climate resilience and provide education and training opportunities
- Identify and advocate for funding opportunities to support sustainability projects and technologies.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday, 75 hours bi-weekly (hybrid)

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Sustainability, Industrial Engineering, or Nursing required
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Professional Designation or Licensure in project management, sustainability, accounting, or nursing preferred
  • Minimum of two years of related experience required
  • Prior experience in healthcare settings, especially in sustainability or quality improvement roles, preferred
  • Analyze and evaluate information from multiple sources to address problems. 
  • Critical thinking skills to develop innovative solutions to complex and unpredictable problems. 
  • Solve strategic problems with a long-term impact by anticipating future challenges and opportunities. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring data integrity and compliance with frameworks and standards
  • Strong communication skills, especially with conveying information, facilitating discussions, adapting information and messages to suit different audiences, persuading and influencing others and leading organization-wide strategic communication initiatives
