The Opportunity

In collaboration with the MDR Manager, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the ongoing oversight of the MDR department. This position provides a includes a leadership role for recruitment and retention of staff, performance and attendance management from an oversight and accountability perspective, and general supervision of quality and safe reprocessing practices, at all stages. The MDR Supervisor will manage day-to-day operations of the MDR department; engage in regular quality improvement processes; and facilitate productive and robust relationships with partners within the perioperative programs (Pediatric & Women’s Operating Rooms and Birth Unit) and other clinical services.

Your Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Course.
  • MDR Certification required. 
  • Current member of the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia an asset.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Device Reprocessing Leadership Program (or successfully complete within first year as Supervisor).
  • Minimum of five years recent medical device reprocessing experience in a high-volume MDR setting preferred.
  • Previous experience in management/supervision an asset.
  • Leadership development programs an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge in OR Services (PED’s, Women’s and Birth Unit)
  • Extensive knowledge in the operation of all MDR equipment.
  • Medical Terminology and Surgical Instrument Specialist courses preferred.
  • Formal quality improvement/management education an asset.
  • Current member of the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia an asset.
  • Knowledge of legislation and best practice related to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Medical Device Reprocessing, and Infection Prevention & Control.
  • Knowledge of labour relations and human resource practices, processes and collective agreements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Windows applications, web-based programs, and other computer competencies and software applications.
  • Demonstrated judgment and decision-making skills demonstrated through analysis and synthesis, critical thinking & problem solving, systems thinking and emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated professional accountability and responsibility to the teams and the MDR provincial program.
  • Demonstrated ability to build internal and external collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Experience in leading or participating in quality improvement initiatives and implementing evidence-based practice changes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated organizational and priority-management skills.
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practice, self-care and employee wellness.
  • Solid understanding of Accreditation Canada standards and processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions (i.e. PPE) and applicable regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating opportunities for staff to identify personal learning needs and to participate in educational/professional developmental activities.
  • Experience conducting performance management cycles, individual performance improvement plans and any subsequent evaluation and coaching as appropriate.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
