The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager and with accountability to the Professional Practice Chief, Clinical Nutrition, for issues pertaining to Professional Standards of Practice and Ethics. The Clinical Dietitian collaborates and consults as a member of the interdisciplinary team in the nutritional management of women during preconception, pregnancy and the post partum period.  The Clinical Dietitian provides general outpatient nutrition therapy for the Maternal Newborn Program.  The Clinical Dietitian provides assessment, intervention, and follow-up (as indicated) on a direct, consultative or monitoring basis. The Clinical Dietitian consults and collaborates with health care providers regarding clients. The Clinical Dietitian is also a member of the Pregnancy and Diabetes Program and participates in the development of services through care team meetings, working groups, and sub-committees as appropriate. The Clinical Dietitian will assist staff, dietetic interns and affiliating students on normal and therapeutic nutrition in accordance with the mission, vision, and philosophies of the IWK Health Centre. The Clinical Dietitian provides nutrition education and acts as a mentor to dietetic interns and as a resource to other multidisciplinary students, staff and physicians. The Clinical Dietitian shares responsibility with all dietitians to provide caseload coverage throughout the Health Centre Women’s Health Program, as required.

Hours of Work

Monday - Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major credits in nutrition or dietetics required, Master’s Degree an asset. 
  • Successful completion of a Dietetic Internship Program required. 
  • Current license to practice with NS Dietetic Association, or eligible to obtain license, required. 
  • Member of Dietitians of Canada, or eligible for membership, preferred. 
  • Previous related clinical nutrition experience required. 
  • Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification preferred
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team as well as the ability to work independently. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication (verbal & written) skills. 
  • Excellent time management, organization and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Family Centred Care. 
  • Competency in other languages an asset
