The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Pediatric Perioperative Services, the Clinical Leader of Operations supports the efficient and effective operation of the Pediatric Day Surgery & Recovery Room, and Pre-op Clinic, by assisting with planning, organization, directing, and performing clinical care consistent with the philosophy, vision, objectives, and mission of the Health Centre.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Coordinates patient care by following NAPAN standards; Collaborates with the Dept.’s of Anaesthesia and Surgery, as well as OR Leadership on day-to-day utilization of OR block and waitlist time; Provides leadership within the team structure; Participates in the identification of capital equipment and budget requirements; Serves as a mentor and clinical resource to staff; Provides feedback and coaching; Updates staff concerning committee meetings and learning opportunities in collaboration with the Clinical Leader of Development; Promotes an environment for learning (e.g. conferences, workshops, individual learning, committees and goals); Coordinates and facilitates staff meetings; Coordinates quality improvement and risk management activities in collaboration with the Clinical Leader of Development; Anticipates and addresses immediate and long-term staffing needs; Participates in the completion of initiating and assisting in the hiring process; Supports staff scheduling in coordination with Manager and Staffing Coordinator; Works within budget parameters to meet needs for staff, education, equipment, professional development, etc; Assists Manager with coordination of staff.    

Hours of Work


Monday to Friday, 7.5 Hour Shifts, 37.5 hours/week

Your Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required (candidates with commensurate experience and education will be considered).
• Registered, or eligible to be registered, with Nova Scotia College of Nursing required.
• Minimum of 3 years recent Pediatric Perioperative Care Unit experience required.
• Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.
• CAN Peri-anesthesia Certification preferred.
• Demonstrated visionary regarding trends in pediatric care
• Demonstrated expert problem-solving, independent decision making & sound judgment skills required.
• Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning required
• Demonstrated commitment to professional development and practice required.
• Demonstrated strong communication (both verbal and non-verbal) and interpersonal skills required. 
• Demonstrated ability to lead in a busy, fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated strong leadership skills required
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and manage time appropriately is required.
• Competency in other languages is considered an asset
