About the Opportunity

As an Emergency Room Nurse at the IWK Health Centre you will: 

  • Report to the Manager of the Emergency Department as a key member of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Deliver holistic, comprehensive, evidence-based care tailored to the needs of children, pregnant mothers, and families.
  • Provide leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and family care.
  • Promote, maintain, and restore health while preventing illness, injury, and disability—or supporting a peaceful death when necessary.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and health team members across all stages of health and illness complexities.
  • Build professional relationships with colleagues to support a strong interprofessional team.
  • Ensure patient and family goals and needs are prioritized, individualized, and informed by nursing knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical judgment.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments, deliver patient/family education, and coordinate care with a focus on excellence and compassion.
  • Contribute to the reputation of IWK as a leader in healthcare within the Maritime community and beyond.
  • Partner with others to build a sustainable healthcare system through collaboration and advocacy.
  • Pursue excellence in care, teaching, and research, fostering innovation and discovery.
  • Practice according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, Nova Scotia College of Nursing Standards of Nursing Practice, applicable specialty standards, and IWK policies and procedures.
